Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, has attributed the Black Stars’ recent defeat to Sudan to inadequate planning and preparation.
On Tuesday, Ghana lost 2-0 to the Falcons at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
The defeat has left Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco next year in jeopardy, as they have only managed to accumulate two points from four games in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
Mr. Afriyie criticized the GFA, the technical team, and the Management Committee, blaming them for the lack of preparation that led to the loss against Sudan.
“I had the opportunity to watch both games and what cost us was lack of proper planning and these games, we had to play two games and I am still struggling to understand why Ghaba might not qualify for a 24-team tournament,” he said on Asempa FM‘s Ultimate Sports Show.
“It is bad for us, and it is all about lack of proper planning on behalf of the coach, the Black Stars Management Committee, and the Ghana Football Association,” he added.
Currently, Ghana is in 3rd place with two points from four matches. They will conclude their AFCON qualifiers with final games against Niger and Angola.
To qualify for the tournament, the Black Stars must win both of their remaining matches and hope that Sudan loses their last two games.
