The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has completed inspections of the Accra and Cape Coast stadiums for potential approval to host category C matches, according to a report by Joy Sports.
This follows the suspension of the Baba Yara Stadium’s license to host category C games due to its substandard playing surface.
CAF’s decision has left Ghana without a certified stadium to hold international fixtures. As a result, the country was forced to consider alternative venues abroad for their October doubleheader against Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Reports indicate that, CAF inspectors visited Ghana over the weekend to assess the Accra and Cape Coast stadiums.
This inspection was requested by the Ministry of Sports, in an effort to avoid the embarrassment of not being able to host the upcoming games locally.
Earlier, the Ministry had asked the Ghana Football Association to appeal to CAF for a reinspection of the Accra, Legon, and Cape Coast stadiums following the initial communication from CAF.
If either stadium meets the required standards, Ghana is expected to receive temporary approval to host the October AFCON qualifiers.
During an appearance before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and the Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Seth Panwum assured that the game against Sudan would be played in Ghana.
Ghana is set to host Sudan in the first leg on Friday, October 11, before travelling to Libya to face Sudan again at the Martyrs of February Stadium on Monday, October 14.
The Black Stars are currently in third place in Group F with just one point from two matches.
