Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has expressed concern over the Black Stars’ challenging start in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, describing the team’s winless run as unusual.
The Black Stars currently hold 3rd place in Group F with just two points from a possible 12 after four matches.
Reflecting on the situation, Asante Twum shared his worries in an interview with Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show. He said, “It is not normal for the Black Stars to play four matches without a win.”
“It is very worrying as a country and for the playing body, but I know the technical team and the players are determined to do their best in the last two games,” he added.
Ghana’s qualifiers began with a 1-0 home loss to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium, followed by a 1-1 draw against Niger in Berkane. They then played a goalless draw against Sudan in Accra, before a 2-0 defeat in the return match in Libya.
The Black Stars will look to turn things around in their final qualifiers, facing Angola on November 15 at Estádio 11 de Novembro, followed by a home game against Niger at Accra Sports Stadium.
To secure qualification, Ghana must win both games and hope Sudan falters in their remaining matches against Niger and Angola.
The team is set to conclude their training today before departing for Luanda on Wednesday.
