Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Head of Public Relations and Strategy, Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, has assured fans that the Black Stars remain committed to qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite a challenging start.
The Ghana national team is at risk of missing out on the AFCON for the first time in 20 years, having gone four games without a win in the qualifiers. They began with a narrow 1-0 home loss to Angola, followed by a 1-1 draw with Niger.
In October’s doubleheader against Sudan, the Black Stars sought a turnaround but were held to a scoreless draw at home in Accra before suffering a 2-0 defeat in the away leg. These results place Ghana third in Group F, with only two points.
However, Armstrong-Mortagbe expressed confidence in an interview, stating that the team will fight until all qualification possibilities are exhausted.
“The results this month will be telling,” he told Metro TV. “As long as there’s a mathematical chance, we won’t give up. It’s either ‘never say die’ or ‘wou kum ap3m ap3m beba,’” he added, referencing a popular Ghanaian phrase about resilience.
For Ghana to advance, they must secure victories in their final matches against Angola and Niger and hope that Sudan loses to both Niger and Angola. The Black Stars are set to play Angola in Luanda on November 15 at Estádio 11 de Novembro, followed by a home game against Niger on November 18 at Accra Sports Stadium.
The team will convene in Accra this Sunday to prepare for the crucial upcoming games.
