2025 AFCONQ: Black Stars will not concede from long balls – Otto Addo vows

-

Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, has expressed confidence that his team will avoid conceding goals from long balls in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier opener.

Ghana is set to face Angola’s Palancas Negras on Thursday, September 5, at Baba Yara Stadium.

Addo’s team has previously struggled with defending long balls, notably conceding two goals in a 4-3 victory over the Central African Republic during a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in June.

However, the 45-year-old coach believes this issue will not affect their upcoming game against Angola.

“We had problems with that (conceding from long balls). For me, it’s not particularly easy to work particularly on that because we just had three days of training so it’s not that easy,” Addo told the media on Wednesday at the press conference.

“It’s more about technical things in general, individual tactics which we have to improve and we addressed it and I’m convinced this won’t happen again,” he added.

The match is set to kick off at 16:00 GMT.

The Black Stars will travel to play Niger in their second Group F game on Monday, September 9 in Berkane.
