Chairman of Ghana’s Parliament Select Committee for Youth, Sports, and Tourism, Wisdom Kobena Woyome, has expressed his belief that the Black Stars could have performed better in their first two matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
The senior national team started their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Angola, followed by a 1-1 draw against Niger in their second Group F game.
These results have left the Black Stars in third place with just one point.
In an interview with ChannelOne TV, Woyome, who is also the Member of Parliament for South Tongu Constituency, stated that the team could have shown greater commitment in these matches.
“On the player side, a bit of commitment because if you look at it, the same pitch was what the Angolans also played (on) so they could have also probably do a bit more to get the results we wanted. More especially too when you are playing before your home crowd,” he said.
He also expressed disappointment with the game against Niger in Morocco.
“However, we saw the results that we got. I was thinking the game in Morocco (against Niger) was going to be one which was going to be smooth sailing to stamp our place going forward and the way it went, again, an issue of commitment,” he added.
The Black Stars now prepare for an important doubleheader in October, where they will face Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan.
