Former Black Stars coach, CK Akonnor, remains optimistic that Ghana can secure a convincing victory over Sudan to boost their chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Ghana played out a goalless draw against Sudan in the first leg of their doubleheader on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium, a result that has complicated their path to the tournament, set to take place in Morocco next year.
With the second leg scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, Akonnor believes the Black Stars have what it takes to bounce back with a decisive win against a Sudanese team coached by former Ghana boss, Kwesi Appiah.
“It’s a challenging period we find ourselves in, but it’s important we stick together and support the team,” Akonnor told Joy Sports.
“It is important we win our remaining matches. Sudan is a good team, coached by someone we all know and respect. I however believe we can win.
“This Ghana side is capable of winning and winning convincingly. We just need to support him,” he added.
Ghana currently sits third in Group F, and their hopes of AFCON qualification now rest on winning all three of their remaining fixtures.
The crucial second leg will take place at the Martyrs of February Stadium, with kick-off at 13:00 GMT.
