2025 AFCONQ: Black Stars can cause an upset in Luanda – Henry Asante Twum

-

Communications Director for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, remains hopeful about the Black Stars’ chances of defeating Angola in their upcoming match in Luanda.

The Black Stars will face Angola’s Palancas Negras in their fifth match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, set for Friday, November 18, at the Estádio 11 de Novembro.

In a recent interview, Asante Twum expressed optimism despite Ghana’s slow start in the qualifiers. He noted that the Black Stars have the potential to secure a victory, similar to how Angola beat Ghana in their first meeting at the Baba Yara Stadium.

“The Black Stars can also go to Angola and beat them just like how they came here to beat us,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

He acknowledged that while a win is possible, the outcome doesn’t rest solely with the team.

“It is possible, but at the end of the day, we also know it is not entirely in our hands, but we will continue to fight until the final game,” he added.

After the match against Angola, the Black Stars will return home to conclude their qualifiers against Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 21.

The team began preparations on Monday with an initial training session involving eight players. They are set to complete their training in Ghana today before traveling to Luanda on Wednesday.

Currently, Ghana is third in Group F with two points from four matches. To qualify, they will need to win their remaining games and hope that Sudan loses its final matches against Niger and Angola.
