2025 AFCONQ: Baba Yara Stadium will be ready for Ghana v Angola game – NSA Deputy Director

-

Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Abdul Majeed Bawa, has assured that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be ready in time to host Ghana’s match against Angola in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The senior national team, the Black Stars, is set to face the Palancas Negras on September 5 in their Group F opening match.

Currently, the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which is the only venue in Ghana approved for hosting CAF and FIFA matches, is in poor condition after a recent five-day crusade held there.

In an interview, Majeed Bawa assured stakeholders that the stadium will be ready for the upcoming match.

“I can assure you that the pitch is ready, and it will be in top condition to host the Black Stars’ game against Angola,” he told Citi Sports.

“Before we handed over the facility for that program in Tarkwa, the Minister requested our recovery plan, which we provided.

“The Minister was satisfied with our robust plan to restore the pitch, knowing that the event would likely cause some damage. We’ve made all the necessary preparations and provisions to ensure the pitch is fully recovered,” he added.

Following the match against Angola, Ghana will travel to face Niger four days later.

In related news, Otto Addo, the head coach of the Black Stars, has submitted his squad list for the qualifiers to the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
