Athletic Bilbao manager Ernesto Valverde has confirmed that Inaki Williams will miss Ghana’s final matches in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to injury.
The 30-year-old striker sustained a left hamstring injury, which kept him out of Bilbao’s 1-1 draw against Real Valladolid over the weekend.
As a result, Williams will not be available for the Black Stars’ upcoming matches against Angola and Niger.
“I don’t think he’ll be able to play this time because he hasn’t been able to be here with us,” Valverde said.
Williams was initially included in Ghana’s 25-man squad for the fixtures. The team will begin their preparations in Accra later today, with their first training session scheduled for 17:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium, which will be open to the public.
Tuesday’s session will be closed before the squad departs for Luanda on Wednesday.
The Black Stars are determined to qualify for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, despite a rocky start to the campaign. Ghana currently sits third in Group F, with just two points from four matches, trailing Angola and Sudan.
Otto Addo and his charges will face Angola on November 15 at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, followed by a home match against Niger on November 18 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
