Former Black Starlets Head Coach, Laryea Kingston, Voices Frustration Over Ghana’s Failure to Qualify for 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)

Former Black Starlets head coach, Laryea Kingston, has voiced his frustration over Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

This marks the first time in two decades that the senior national team, coached by Otto Addo, will not compete in the prestigious tournament.

Ghana ended up in last place in Group F, earning just three points from three draws and three defeats during the qualifiers.

Ahead of the AFCON draw on Monday, Kingston, a former Ghana international, expressed his disappointment at the nation’s absence from the tournament.

“I am very disappointed that our beloved country Ghana did not qualify. One of the strongest countries in African football will not be participating in the AFCON in Morocco, and that is quite a disappointing moment for me,” he told Sporty FM.

Looking forward, the Black Stars will now turn their attention to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with upcoming matches against Chad and Madagascar set for March.
