2024 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship: Black Satellites book semis spot after draw with Togo

-

The Black Satellites of Ghana have advanced to the semi-finals of the ongoing WAFU B U20 Championship after a 1-1 draw against hosts Togo in their final Group A match on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

Promising striker, Jerry Afriyie, scored his third goal of the tournament to give his team the lead in the first half.

However, Togo’s Bourgeous Bouraima equalized in the second half, securing a draw for the hosts.

With this result, the Black Satellites finished at the top of Group A, having achieved one win and two draws in the sub-regional competition.

Coach Desmond Ofei’s team is set to face the second-placed team from Group B in the semi-finals, scheduled for Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the Stade Municipal in Togo.

Ghana will be closely monitoring the final results of Group B on Thursday, October 24, 2024, where Cote D’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria are all vying for a spot in the last four in a highly competitive group.

The WAFU B U20 Championship serves as a qualification event for the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations, with only the top two teams earning spots in the tournament.

The 2025 U20 AFCON will also act as a pathway to the 2025 FIFA U20 World Cup in Chile, where the top four teams will qualify.
