The Black Princesses have been eliminated from the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup following Argentina’s victory on Sunday evening.
Ghana was hoping to secure the final spot available for the best third-placed teams with a win against New Zealand.
However, their chance of qualifying for the next round is over due to the outcome of Argentina’s match against Costa Rica.
Heading into their game, Mexico, Canada, and South Korea had all accumulated four points as third-place teams, while Argentina had only one point.
Argentina managed to score in the first half and held on to win, bringing their total to four points.
This result dashed Ghana’s hopes of advancing from the group stage, marking their seventh consecutive failure to progress to the knockout rounds of the tournament.
Under the guidance of Yussif Basigi, Ghana lost their opening matches against Austria and Japan. A win in their final group game against New Zealand would have given them only three points overall.
The Black Princesses faced New Zealand at 11:00 pm on Sunday.
This elimination continues Ghana’s streak of unsuccessful attempts in the competition since their debut in 2012.
