The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has urged Ghanaians to prioritize peace and unity as the December elections draw near.
Mahama emphasized that the peace Ghana has long cherished is a treasure that must be carefully protected, especially with the potential for heightened tensions during the election season.
Speaking at an event in Yendi in the Northern Region, Mahama reflected on Ghana’s esteemed role as a beacon of stability and democracy within West Africa.
He reminded attendees that Ghana’s reputation for harmony is a valuable asset, one that requires vigilant safeguarding.
Mahama highlighted that Yendi, where he delivered his address, serves as a powerful example of peace through reconciliation.
He commended the community for overcoming historical conflicts through dialogue and mutual understanding.
“Our country has always been the envy of many in our region, where peace has sometimes proved elusive. Whether in football or politics, even in moments of disagreement, we respect each other’s views. The peaceful resolution of past conflicts in Yendi underscores our commitment to coexistence and progress,” Mahama remarked.
“As we approach the elections, let us remember that peace is fragile. Like an egg, once cracked, it cannot be fully restored without leaving marks.”
