The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged heightened surveillance and security measures ahead of the December 7 elections, citing intelligence reports of potential plans to incite violence, particularly in the Ashanti Region.
Addressing a police briefing with political party representatives on election preparedness, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua emphasized the need for proactive steps to guarantee a peaceful electoral process.
He called for stringent monitoring of motorbike usage on election day, referencing a violent incident during the Assin North by-election as a precedent.
“No one should be above the law, and on December 7, violence should not play any role in our elections. We want the police to ensure peace during the polls,” he stated.
“We have picked up intelligence suggesting plans to cause chaos in the Ashanti Region. In the past, motorbikes have been used to foment trouble around polling stations. We need clarity on whether their use will be restricted on election day,” he added.
