The Youth Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong warning against the potential re-election of John Mahama and his running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, describing it as a disaster waiting to happen for Ghana.
During a press conference in the Upper East Region, NPP National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha criticized Mahama and Prof. Opoku-Agyeman for implementing policies that, in his view, harmed the youth during their previous time in government.
He specifically highlighted the cancellation of the teacher trainee allowance as an example of their governance failures.
Citing Mahama’s defeats in the 2016 and subsequent elections, Mustapha argued that Ghanaians had already rejected Mahama’s leadership.
“From Kwame Nkrumah to Akufo-Addo, how is it that John Dramani Mahama remains the only leader in our nation’s history to be rejected by voters during a re-election bid? And how has he faced rejection twice after serving as both vice president and president?,” he questioned.
He further accused Mahama of plunging the country into crises like “dumsor” (power outages) despite having abundant resources.
“He inherited an oil-rich economy with no global crisis, yet he created his own. Schools didn’t even have basic supplies like chalk. The country was left rudderless and mismanaged under his watch,” he added.
According to Mustapha, Mahama’s presidency led to widespread hardships, including job losses and economic struggles due to “dumsor.”
“Four years of Mahama was four years of dumsor,” he remarked.
Mustapha further described Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, as incompetent, pointing to her handling of the controversial 3-month pay policy for teachers, the cancellation of the teacher trainee allowance, and her failure to provide basic school supplies.
He urged Ghanaian youth to reject both Mahama and Prof. Opoku-Agyemang in the upcoming elections, warning that their return to power would spell doom for the country and undermine the future of the youth, particularly as the world moves toward the fourth industrial revolution.
