The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of operations, Samuel Tettey, has confirmed that nearly all polling stations across Ghana, approximately 99%, opened on time at 7 a.m. on Saturday, December 7.
Mr Tettey made the announcement during a press conference, providing an update on the progress of the ongoing elections.
He expressed satisfaction with the smooth start to the process, attributing the timely opening of polling stations to effective logistical arrangements and preparation.
“We are pleased to announce that 99% of polling stations began voting promptly at 7 a.m., which reflects our commitment to a seamless electoral process,” he said.
Mr Tettey also reassured the public of adequate security measures in place at all polling centers to ensure voter and electoral official safety.
He praised the collaboration between the Electoral Commission and security agencies, which has been crucial in the smooth running of the elections so far.
He urged voters to remain patient, follow the rules at polling stations, and expressed confidence in the Commission’s ability to oversee a credible, peaceful, and transparent election.
