The Leader and Founder of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, has pledged to implement extensive constitutional reforms to enhance the role of traditional chiefs in governance.
Kicking off a two-day campaign tour in Asunafo South in the Ahafo Region, Kyerematen reiterated his commitment to including chiefs in his administration if elected president.
Speaking to traditional leaders and residents in Sankore, he revealed plans to amend the 1992 Constitution to empower chiefs, who, he argues, have been excluded from national governance.
“The current Constitution sidelines our esteemed chiefs when they should be active partners in governance. Under my leadership, we will amend this aspect of the Constitution,” he stated.
Kyerematen elaborated that his Great Transformational Plan (GTP) includes creating a Second Chamber, where chiefs would serve as co-trustees of Ghana’s lands and natural resources, enabling them to bring their expertise and authority into national leadership.
Nana Tabiri Gyansa, Kotirehene of the Sankore Traditional Council, welcomed this vision, hoping it would address the long-standing developmental neglect in Sankore and surrounding communities.
“Sankore has been overlooked for far too long in terms of development and employment opportunities,” he said.
Kyerematen further emphasized that only a government of national unity can truly transform Ghana, promising to end the partisan gridlock that stalls progress.
“We need a government that unites rather than divides. The Afrafranto Movement is about bringing everyone to the table, including our chiefs,” he said.
The tour will continue across the Ahafo Region, with Alan Kyerematen expected to engage more communities and strengthen support for the Afrafranto Alliance.
