2024 polls: Alan Kyerematen vows to establish independent anti-corruption Authority

Independent Presidential Candidate for the Alliance for Revolutionary Change, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has unveiled an ambitious plan to tackle corruption in Ghana, pledging to lead by example.

He emphasized that, his career has been marked by integrity, and he is committed to upholding these principles if elected.

He highlighted that, his anti-corruption agenda will contain a zero-tolerance policy, ensuring that his administration will neither tolerate nor engage in corrupt activities.

He also promised to establish an anti-corruption fund to bolster efforts in fighting corruption, urging voters to endorse his vision in the upcoming December elections.

During a session with the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) in Accra on Tuesday, October 1, Mr Kyerematen reaffirmed his commitment, stating, “GTP proposes zero tolerance to corruption, starting with leadership by example. I have always said I have never been corrupt and I will never be corrupt.”

Mr Kyerematen’s plan is designed to restore public trust and promote transparency in governance, with a firm pledge to take swift action against any corrupt practices within his administration.

He also introduced a proposal for an “anti-corruption jar,” an independent body with prosecutorial powers, separate from the Attorney General.

He explained that, this body would have the authority to prosecute anyone, even the president, if found guilty of corruption.

Mr Kyerematen noted that the current Office of the Special Prosecutor is hindered by its dependence on the Attorney General, affecting its independence.

“New legislation will allow for an anti-corruption jar with the courage and capacity to prosecute even the president if necessary,” he said.

He further highlighted the importance of citizen involvement in combating corruption, encouraging individuals to report suspicious activities.

Mr Kyerematen pointed out that the display of lavish lifestyles by some individuals can perpetuate corruption and that citizens must play a proactive role in addressing it.

“It’s not just about people in politics; citizens must understand their role in ending corruption. Many people in this country are living beyond their means, and it’s up to citizens to help uncover the truth,” he said.
