The Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) has underscored the importance of addressing concerns raised by political parties before signing any peace agreement.
This statement comes in response to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) decision to withhold its commitment to a peace pact until certain conditions are met.
Speaking at a public forum in Accra, MFWA Executive Director Sulemana Braimah emphasised that while peace is crucial for effective governance, it should not be pursued at the cost of ignoring legitimate concerns.
“Peace is the foremost priority for our country. No government can govern effectively without it. For governance to succeed, the nation must be at peace.
“Therefore, peace is a fundamental prerequisite, and all political parties aspiring to lead this country must commit to it.
“However, if the NDC has raised issues that need to be addressed, stakeholders should take them seriously. We shouldn’t just sign a peace pact for the sake of peace if legitimate concerns are being overlooked” he added.
