2024 Grammys: Tears in Nigeria as Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Ayra Star, Olamide lose all nominations

Heartbreak echoed across Nigeria as prominent artistes including Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, Fireboy, and Ayra Star faced disappointment by losing out on all their Grammy nominations this year.

The absence of a Grammy win for these highly acclaimed musicians has left fans and the industry questioning the dynamics behind the nominations and the ultimate outcomes.

The Recording Academy introduced three new categories for the 2024 edition, notably the African music performance category, which featured Burna Boy and Davido in the same category.

Despite the anticipation and excitement surrounding it, in a bid to end the Davido and Burna ‘beef’ on who has more dominance, the Grammy awards slipped through their grasp.

The Best Global Music Performance category, was won by Indian artiste, Shakti with “This Moment.”

In the Best Melodic Rap Performance category, where Burna Boy was a nominee, Lil Durk featuring J Cole emerged as the winner with the song “All My Life.”

The disappointment extended to the Best African Music Performance category, where Asake and Olamide, Burna Boy, Davido featuring Musa Keys, and Ayra Starr were contenders.

The award went to South Africa’s Tyla for for her hit song “Water.”

As fans grapple with the outcomes and they are convinced these African acts were nominated just to boost talkability in the continent.
