2024 election: NPP knew they wouldn’t win – Felix Kwakye Ofosu [Listen]

-

The spokesperson for President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s Transition Team, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has dismissed claims that only National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters voted in the recent elections, leading to their victory.

Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu questioned the narrative about low voter turnout.

“Why do they keep saying it’s low turnout? The New Patriotic Party (NPP) knew throughout the campaign that they wouldn’t win. They were aware they were trailing by a wide margin,” he stated.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said the outcome of the election serves as a warning to any political party that underperforms in government.

“This election means that if we [the NDC] don’t do better, Ghanaians will vote us out, just as they did to the NPP. We are ready to rule the country well, to please Ghanaians and improve the economy” he stated.

The NDC man further argued that, the NPP’s poor performance was not a result of voter apathy but a reflection of public dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of the economy.

“The NPP messed up the economy, and this has nothing to do with low turnout. Even the so-called low turnout is a form of protest. People didn’t see the need to vote for them,” he added.

In the 2024 presidential race, former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC, secured victory with 56.55% of the total valid votes.

He defeated 12 other candidates, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling NPP, who came in second with 41.61% of the votes.
