The Tarkwa-Nsuaem constituency has elected Sheikh Issah Salifu Taylor as its new Member of Parliament (MP) following the 2024 general elections.
The provisional results from all 263 polling stations in the constituency reflect a decisive victory for the independent candidate.
Sheikh Salifu Taylor garnered 35,906 votes, representing 47.11%, to unseat the incumbent MP, George Mireku Duker of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who obtained 27,404 votes, translating to 35.96%.
Meanwhile, Joy Joycelyn Andoh, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, secured 12,903 votes, representing 16.93% of the valid votes cast.
The election outcome demonstrates a shift in voter sentiment, with Salifu Taylor’s victory ending Mireku Duker’s tenure as MP since 2016.
Following the announcement of the provisional results, Sheikh Issah Salifu Taylor expressed gratitude to his supporters for their overwhelming trust in his leadership.
He pledged to serve all constituents, irrespective of their political affiliations, and work toward achieving sustainable development in Tarkwa-Nsuaem.
