The Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) has accused the Akufo-Addo government of collapsing the jobs of spare parts dealers with high taxes and an unstable currency.
However, the former President has assured the next NDC government has the experienced and capable hands to turn the fortunes of the business community around.
In this regard, he has promised to introduce a fixed rate on imported spare parts if the party wins the December 7 elections.
Mr Mahama explained that, this policy will ensure transparency in the charges applied to imported consignments.
“NDC has the men and women to rescue the country to stabilise the cedi and reduce the cost of doing business. We brought someone from Bank of Ghana who told us he has arrested the cedi and given the key to the IGP.
“At that time, the cedi was around 3 per dollar but within 8 years, it is over 16 cedis so we know the taxes are too much so we will introduce the fixed rate policy to solve the charges problem at the port,” he said.
Aside that, John Mahama said he will reduce import duties and introduce a flat tax regime to ease their burden.
Mr Mahama made the pledge while addressing dealers at Kokompe in the Ablekuma North constituency in the phase three of his Greater Accra regional campaign.
Artisans, spare parts dealers, other traders of Kokonpe in the Greater region gathered to listen and discuss their challenges with the NDC’s campaign team, led by John Mahama.
