2024 election: Mahama dares Bawumia over corruption fight

-

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Presidential candidate, John Mahama has challenged Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to boldly state corruption-related activities and scandals that have marred the ruling government he intends to prosecute when elected on December 7.

The former President said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer does not have the political will, cannot investigate and prosecute party members.

Mr Mahama said this while reiterating plans to deal decisively with corruption and recover all looted state assets from political appointees in the ruling regime.

He emphasised the establishment of the “Operation-Recover-All-Loot” (ORAL) through which the fight against corruption will extend to politically exposed persons and all serving public officials.

Mr Mahama said he believes in holding public office holders accountable but the ruling government does not have the courage to do same.

Addressing electorates in Sissala East as part of his Upper West campaign tour, he called on Ghanaians to vote out the NPP for proper accountability.

He stated that Ghana is sinking, hence the NDC must win to reposition the country back on track.

He added that, re-electing the NPP is just like rewarding mismanagement and thievery.

“The reason they are desperate to have Bawumia to replace Akufo-Addo in the presidency is that they want him to cover their backs. There is no way Bawumia can prosecute Akufo-Addo, Ken Ofori-Atta or any of the leading members in the NPP. It is only the NDC that can investigate all those who have stolen our money.

“So for Ghanaians to have accountability, the NPP must leave power that is why the NDC has launched the operation recover all the loot if you have stolen Ghanaians’ money, you can be sure when John Mahama is elected president, we will come after you and retrieve all the monies for Ghana,” he said.
