2024 Election: Joana Cudjoe’s fate hangs as Court makes decision today

-

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Sekondi High Court will today, November 7, rule on an application to overturn an injunction against the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, Joana Cudjoe.

This legal move follows the dismissal of an earlier application by the Accra High Court, in which the NDC sought to restrain the Electoral Commission (EC) from printing ballots and the notice of poll in defense of Cudjoe’s eligibility.

The NDC is demanding that the EC restore Madam Cudjoe’s name on the notice of poll and ballot papers for Amenfi Central.

The EC, on October 16, 2024, disqualified Joana Cudjoe from the contest, citing an interlocutory injunction at the Sekondi High Court, challenging her candidacy.

The EC explained that the court had ordered that, pending the final determination of the matter, Madam Cudjoe must not hold herself out as the NDC parliamentary candidate.

The court’s ruling will therefore bring finality to the legal tussle and will determine whether or not Madam Cudjoe, whose candidacy is being challenged, can contest the December 7 election.
