Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman for Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Robert Crentsil, popularly known as “Bob,” has crossed carpet to endorse Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and John Mahama with barely five days to the December 7 election.
In a surprising move, the 2016 Best National Farmer announced his support for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) figures, criticising the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led NPP government for what he described as a series of failures.
Mr Crentsil expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance of the NPP government, citing unmet promises and poor economic management as key reasons for his decision.
He highlighted the challenges faced by his constituents, including rising living costs and declining agricultural support, which he believes have been exacerbated under the current administration.
His endorsement of Dr Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament for the constituency, reflects his confidence in the NDC’s ability to address these issues.
In his statement, Mr Crentsil praised the leadership qualities of John Dramani Mahama, suggesting that the former president’s track record offers hope for a better future.
He urged his supporters and constituents to consider the broader impact of their votes in the upcoming elections, emphasising the need for change and a return to policies that prioritise development and social welfare.
This development has sparked considerable debate within the political landscape, as Mr Crentsil’s defection marks a significant shift in local dynamics.
