2024 CHANQ: It will be tough for Black Galaxies against Nigeria – Former captain

-

Former Black Galaxies skipper, Gladson Awako has predicted a challenging match as Ghana prepares to face Nigeria in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.

The two footballing rivals are set to renew their fierce competition, with Ghana hosting the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The reverse fixture is scheduled to take place at the Godsway Akpabio Stadium in Nigeria.

Reflecting on their past encounters, Awako acknowledged the formidable nature of Nigeria’s squad but remains hopeful about Ghana’s chances.

“The Black Galaxies will face a tough test against Nigeria. We knocked them out the last time, so this game won’t be easy for either side. Nigerians always see themselves as superior, but I’m confident we can surprise them,” Awako said during an interview on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.

Awako, a U-20 World Cup champion, also highlighted the critical role of discipline and teamwork in securing victory.

“The players must remain humble and adhere to the technical team’s guidance. Our technical team is experienced and knows how to approach crucial games like this,” he added.

The stakes are high, as the winner of this two-legged tie will secure a spot in the CHAN tournament, set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in 2025.
