2024/25 GHPL MD17 wrap: Kotoko cruise past Vision FC as Chelsea stun Medeama

The first round of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season concluded with thrilling action across various venues.

At the Baba Yara Stadium, Asante Kotoko delivered an emphatic 4-1 victory over Vision FC to maintain their strong form. Kwame Opoku struck early, finding the net in the 7th minute, but Nana Kwesi equalized for Vision FC in the 22nd minute. Peter Amidu Acquah restored Kotoko’s lead in the 32nd minute, followed by Opoku’s second goal in the 37th. Saka Dauda capped the scoring with a superb finish just before halftime.

Defending champions FC Samartex were held to a goalless draw by Hearts of Oak at the Nsenkyire Sports Stadium.

At the Nana Kronmansah Park, Nsoatreman FC earned a vital 1-0 win against relegation-threatened Karela United. Eric Osei Bonsu converted a penalty in the 55th minute, easing pressure on head coach Yaw Preko.

Meanwhile, Basake Holy Stars and Aduana Stars played out a 1-1 draw at the Ampian AAK II Sports Arena. Alex Boakye gave Aduana the lead with a 33rd-minute penalty, but debutants Basake Holy Stars equalized in the 88th minute through Bismark Tey.

At the WAFA Park, Accra Lions suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Bibiani GoldStars. Samuel Attah Kumi was the star of the show, scoring a hat trick. He netted his first in the 14th minute, added a second on the brink of halftime, and completed the treble just a minute after the break with a spectacular strike.

Berekum Chelsea secured a dramatic 2-1 win over Medeama SC at the Golden City Park. Stephen Amankona opened the scoring for the hosts in the 47th minute, but Yussif Mubarik levelled the game in the 88th minute. In a thrilling finish, Zakaria Fuseini scored in the 98th minute to seal the victory for Chelsea.

At the Kpando Sports Stadium, Heart of Lions suffered a surprising 1-0 defeat to Nations FC. After a goalless first half, Bi Boris Djangone scored in the 88th minute to give Nations FC the win.

Young Apostles and Bechem United played out a goalless draw at the Wenchi Sports Stadium.

In the final game of the weekend, relegation-threatened Legon Cities stunned Dreams FC with a commanding 3-0 victory. After a scoreless first half, Frederick Akatuk broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute. Frank Akoto added a second in the 76th minute, and Raymond Agyemang sealed the win with a fine strike in the 97th minute.
