2024/25 GHPL: Hearts of Oak beat Bechem United to record first win

-

Hearts of Oak has secured their first win of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, defeating Bechem United in a Matchday 3 clash at the University of Ghana Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Phobians, who had suffered two consecutive losses, delivered a much-improved performance that finally broke their winless streak.

New signing Ransford Mensah opened the scoring early in the second half with a stunning free-kick from the edge of the box, giving Hearts the lead and energizing the team, who had struggled to find the back of the net in their previous games.

Hearts’ top scorer from last season, Hamza Issah, extended the lead in the 75th minute, sealing the win with a well-placed goal.

Despite some defensive lapses that allowed Bechem to level at 2-2 temporarily, the Phobians’ overall control of the match was evident.

This victory comes as a huge relief for under-pressure manager Aboubakar Ouattara, who faced mounting criticism from fans following the team’s poor start to the campaign.

Hearts of Oak will now hope to build momentum as they prepare to face Nations FC away at the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex, while Bechem United, still winless and goalless after three matches, will host Dreams FC in their next fixture.
