2024/25 GHPL MD26 Wrap: Hearts of Oak stun Medeama as Kotoko held at Heart of Lions

-

The Matchday 26 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League served up drama, goals, and surprises across various match venues, with one fixture still to come on Monday.

Hearts of Oak secured a vital win at the Accra Sports Stadium, edging past Medeama SC 1-0 to snap a four-game winless streak. The match-winner came courtesy of a sensational long-range strike from Raphael Amponsah, whose 40-yard effort in the first half lit up the capital.

Over in Kpando, Asante Kotoko saw their winning momentum halted as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Heart of Lions. Justice Blay gave the Porcupine Warriors the lead just before the break, but Ali Fawaz leveled for the hosts two minutes into the second half.

At the Tuba Astro Turf, Dreams FC continued their impressive form with a commanding 2-0 victory over Bibiani Gold Stars. Goals from Abdul Razak Salifu in the 34th minute and Izdeen Mohammed early in the second half sealed the points for the home side.

FC Samartex 1996 heaped more misery on struggling Accra Lions with a convincing 2-0 win at the Nana Nsenkyire Sports Arena. Emmanuel Mammah struck inside the opening minute, with Akwasi Sarpong adding a second before halftime.

In Wenchi, Young Apostles were held to a goalless draw by Legon Cities, as both teams failed to convert their chances in a tightly contested affair.

At the Ampain AAK II Sports Arena, Basake Holy Stars returned to winning ways with a 2-1 triumph over Berekum Chelsea. Emmanuel Agyei broke the deadlock in the 7th minute before Prince Tweneboah doubled the lead just before the break. Jonah Attuquaye pulled one back for Chelsea in stoppage time, but it wasn’t enough to avoid their ninth loss of the campaign.

Aduana FC also bounced back with a narrow 1-0 victory over Vision FC at the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park. Rich Sackey scored the lone goal in the 10th minute to hand the Ogya Boys all three points.

The final fixture of Matchday 26 takes place on Monday as Nations FC welcome Karela United to the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex. Kick-off is at 15:00 GMT.

As it stands, Asante Kotoko, Bibiani Gold Stars, Heart of Lions, and Hearts of Oak occupy the top four positions, while Accra Lions, Legon Cities, and Nsoatreman FC remain in the relegation zone.
