Marcel Desailly, a 1998 World Cup winner with the French national football team and a Ghanaian by birth, has charged the Black Stars to start their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on a good note.
The four-time African champions have been handed a tricky group.
CK Akonnor and his charges have been drawn alongside South Africa, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.
Speaking after the draw, the Chelsea legend said he was confident of Ghana’s chances of making a fourth appearance at the soccer mundial but asked for a good start.
“The Black Stars look like a new team because there are some new faces.
“There is a new coach who is former captain of the national team. He has more coaching experience but they have to start the qualifiers very well because the balance of the group is good but I am expecting a tough match against South Africa and Zimbabwe because the dynamics of the game has now changed.
“I am confident Ghana will qualify for the tournament in Qatar,” he added.
The qualifiers will start on October 5, 2020.
