The Upper West Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of a 20-year-old suspect involved in a series of motorbike robberies in the region.

The convict, Nawaf Abdulai, was arrested in connection with a robbery incident that occurred on 6 March 2025.

According to the Police, Abdulai and an accomplice, Awal Abass—who is currently on the run—robbed two victims of their Haojue and Luojia motorbikes with registration numbers M-21-449 UW and M-17-4607 UW, respectively.

A swift police operation led to Abdulai’s arrest at his residence on 8 March 2025. During investigations, he confessed to the crime.

He was arraigned before the Wa Circuit Court, and on 7 April 2025, His Lordship Jonathan Avoogo sentenced him to 15 years in prison. The court emphasized the need for strict punishment to deter others and reinforce public order.

“The court’s decision brings closure to the case and serves as a deterrent to others who may engage in similar activities,” a statement from the Police read.

The Upper West Regional Police Command commended its officers for their professionalism and acknowledged the public’s cooperation in ensuring justice was served.

The Command reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and property and encouraged continued collaboration with community members.

The Police added that the publication of Abdulai’s photograph was in accordance with legal provisions, as he has been duly convicted.
