The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced plans to develop the Cape Coast Airport if elected president in the upcoming December polls.

Speaking at the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Dr Bawumia revealed that a $2 billion fund has been secured from Korean investors to kickstart the development of the airport.

He emphasized the importance of expanding public infrastructure and shared his vision to revolutionize Ghana’s aviation sector.

Among his key proposals is the establishment of a private-sector-led Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Tamale Airport, aiming to make it a hub for aviation cargo, horticultural cargo, and logistics.

Dr Bawumia also pledged to construct a new airport in the Upper East Region, further showcasing his commitment to enhancing Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and driving economic growth.

“I will facilitate the establishment of a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Tamale Airport, to develop it into an aviation cargo, horticultural cargo, and logistics hub; commence the development of the Cape Coast Airport, for which funding has been secured under the $2 billion Korean facility, in collaboration with the private sector; and build an airport in the Upper East Region,” he stated.
