Former Ghana international George Alhassan has pointed the finger at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for the Black Stars’ failure to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
For the first time in 21 years, the four-time AFCON champions will miss the prestigious competition, which is set to take place in Morocco next year.
Ghana needed a victory over Angola in their Matchday 5 clash after Niger’s 4-0 win against Sudan gave them a crucial opportunity.
However, Otto Addo’s side was held to a 1-1 draw by the Palancras Negras on Friday at the Estádio 11 de Novembro, leaving them in 4th place in Group F with only three points.
In response to the Black Stars’ failure to qualify, Alhassan, speaking on Adom TV’s Sports Arena, criticized the GFA, claiming that the football association should bear responsibility for hiring Otto Addo as the national team coach.
Ghana will finish their qualification campaign with a home match against Niger on Monday at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the game scheduled to kick off at 16:00 GMT.
