Government is being urged to be extra cautious in its dealing with the Chinese government.
According to Anthony Nukpenu, the Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), there is nothing like free lunch in the lexicon of the Chinese government.
His caution comes after Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia revealed the Chinese government had committed a sum of US$15billion to help developmental projects in Ghana, shortly after his arrival from a working visit to China.
Addressing the media at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday June 25, 2017, he indicated that, an additional US$4billion was expected next month aside from the US$2billion in support of government’s One-District-One-Factory project announced on Wednesday.
Dr. Bawumia also assured that the assistance from the Chinese government would not compromise the fight against galamsey as the Chinese government does not support galamsey and has cautioned its citizens resident in Ghana to be law-abiding.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Anthony Nukpenu described the supposed $15 billion loan as a “scam”.
He is convinced the loan facility thrown to the Akufo-Addo led government by China is just a bait given government’s fight illegal mining popularly known as galamsey.
Citing the 3 billion Chinese loan facility promised the erstwhile Mahama government which never saw the light of day, the NDC Regional Organizer urged government ‘to look sharp’.
“The Asians always want to be ahead so let’s do our things well so we don’t throw our country back to the dogs. The NPP should be wise, we will not sit in this country for Ghana to be mortgaged” he stressed.
Anthony Nukpenu could not fathom why the Akufo-Addo government is now globetrotting when it claim Ghana is abound with worth.
“Why are you running helter skelter to China, France, Germany to look for money when you claim there is a lot of money in Ghana? He quizzed.
The NDC man is convinced if government is able to fight corruption in the system, there would be need to hold cup in hand begging for money across the globe.
“There are so much we can tap in the economy and I expect the NPP which claims there is money in the country to work with it” Mr. Nukpenu added.
