The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has deployed fire appliances from 12 different stations to combat a devastating fire at Kantamanto Market in Accra.
The blaze, which erupted around 1 a.m., has destroyed over 100 shops, leaving traders in despair.
Fire appliances from Makola, Greater Accra Regional Headquarters, National Headquarters, Flagstaff House, and Parliament House were initially combating the blaze.
Due to the intensity of the blaze, additional fire tenders from Circle, Trade Fair, and Dansoman were also dispatched to assist.
Two more fire tenders from Abelenkpe and Kasapreko have joined the operation and additional appliances from Tema Regional HQ and Madina have been dispatched to the scene, bringing the total number of appliances to 12.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) was called upon to cut power to the area, ensuring the safety of the operation.
The GNFS reports that the deployment is part of an intense firefighting strategy to bring the situation under control.
Despite the ferocity of the fire, firefighters remain on the scene, working tirelessly to prevent further destruction.
While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, suspicions of arson have arisen among traders due to the rapid spread of the flames.
The GNFS has assured the public of their commitment to addressing the crisis and mitigating its impact.
