A $100 million digital learning project for Senior High Schools across the country has been launched at Awudome Secondary School (AWUSCO) to enhance the quality of teaching and learning and help bridge the educational gap between rural and urban schools.
The initiative, led by the National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (NCPTA) in partnership with Celltel Networks, aims to provide digital tools such as Android phones, tablets, and laptops.
These devices will be made available for parents to purchase for their children under flexible payment plans ranging from one to three years. Additionally, teachers will have a five-year payment period.
Celltel Networks will also provide internet connectivity to the schools at no cost to the NCPTA.
Speaking at the national launch held in Awudome-Tsito in the Ho West District of the Volta Region, NCPTA President Mr. Christian Aikins Atsu explained that the project is part of the council’s collaboration with the government to promote quality education by advancing digital learning systems in Senior High Schools nationwide.
Mr. Atsu emphasized that the NCPTA is committed to partnering with the government to invest resources in creating a conducive environment for teaching, learning, and character development, while also safeguarding student welfare.
He highlighted the crucial role parents play in supporting quality education and praised the government for recognizing this through the launch of the project.
Dr. Prince Kofi Kludjeson, Director of Celltel Networks, stated that his company is dedicated to helping bridge the digital divide between rural and urban communities by providing internet access and digital tools in schools and communities.
He added that technology is key to Ghana’s rapid economic transformation.
Dr. Kludjeson further urged churches to educate their members in Information Communication Technology (ICT) to keep pace with the fast-evolving technological landscape.
He noted that internet access in remote areas would not only improve education but also boost tourism and attract investment to the country.
The Headmaster of AWUSCO, Mr. Courage Meteku, expressed his excitement about the digital learning project. He confirmed that the school has already been connected to the internet, enabling students and teachers to experience new educational opportunities.
Mr. Meteku expressed confidence that the initiative would enhance learning outcomes and further improve the school’s already impressive academic performance.
