A 78 year-old woman, Yaa Nimo has been confirmed dead after a building collapsed on her at Assin Akropong in the Assin North Municipality of the Central Region.

According to Adom News’ Alfred Amoh, one other woman, Yaa Attaa, 75, severely injured after the incident which occurred on Sunday afternoon.

Alfred Amoh reports that the two were pounding fufu close to one side of the building when the unfortunate incident happened.

Yaa Nimo and Yaa Antaa had returned from church last Sunday afternoon and decided to prepare the week-end delicacy.

The two began the exercise behind the wall of the building with suspicious physical integrity. As the pounding went on, the wall caved in on the two old ladies.

Curiosity drew residents in the community to the scene. The body was covered with a cloth, awaiting the police.

However, the Assin Fosu Divisional police commander, Chief Superintendent Henry Bacho who confirmed the incident explained that it was not raining, neither was there a storm, but the mud house, popularly called ‘atakpame’, appeared to be very weak.

Alfred Amoh reports that though the injured had been rushed to the St Francis Xavier Hospital at Assin Fosu, the body of the deceased, which had been lying in the open for close to two hours have been deposited at the morgue.
