Former Ghana High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland says he is not worried if his former boss does not want to see his face.
Ambassador Victor Smith said he bears not grudge against former President Jerry Rawlings but if he [Rawlings] decides not to speak to him forever.
“If Rawlings does not see my face, he is not my father!!! I will mind my own business” he stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday.
The relationship between the ‘two best friends’ was marred when Victor Smith reportedly supported the candidature John Mahama as running mate to late Prof Atta Mills.
The former special assistant and director of public affairs at Rawlings’ office was fired by J.J Rawlings in 2008 via text message.
Victor Smith was subsequently asked to vacate his official residence with a letter to the Chief of Staff at the Castle, notifying the State, since he was on the payroll of government.
After his dismissal, he has never seen ‘eye-to-eye’ with his former mentor after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won the 2000 elections.
The relationship became murkier, Mr. Smith revealed when Jerry Rawlings decided to hobnob with then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“I was hurt seeing Rawlings hobnobbing with NPP. He was seen as the best ally of the opposition” he noted.
The former Ambassador to UK and Ireland said the action and inaction of Mr. Rawlings who is also the founder of the NDC was evident when wanted them to lose the elections.
Victor Smith said though they still accord Mr. Rawlings to needed respect, party members still reserve the right to tell him their mind.
“We don’t have to disrespect him, but he should stop causing someone of us pain; it does not take one man to run a party” he indicated.
