Ecobank opens "Help Sierra-Leone Fund"

Ecobank Ghana has opened a special account dubbed “Help Sierra-Leone Fund” to raise money in Ghana to go support the victims of the recent flood and mudslide disaster in Sierra-Leone.
The disaster has so far claimed over 300 lives and rendered thousands homeless and some missing. Meanwhile, there are reports of a bigger mudslide waiting to happen, which threatens to be even more devastating.
Since the disaster occurred, help have been flowing into that country from all over the world, including Ghana.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dispatched a team from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) with relief items worth US$1million to Sierra-Leone.
The team will today be joined by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and some Ministers of State to make the presentation to the victims.
Head of Corporate Affairs at Ecobank Ghana, Rev. Patricia Sarpor told journalists that in line with Ecobank’s Pan-African values centered around making life better for Africans, they felt the need to raise support from their key stakeholders and the general public to go help the victims of the Sierra-Leonean disaster.
She said the fund is called Help Sierra-Leone Fund and it is under Ecobank account number 0019104511101901, adding that those who wish to donate via mobile money could send donation to MTN mobile number 0557936460 or Tigo Cash number 0277164999.
“Very soon will add Airtel Money and Vodafone Cash numbers as well,” she said.
Ecobank is also working on putting out its QR code that will allow people to scan and donate money digitally either from their mobile money wallet or bank account.
Rev. Patricia Sarpor said anything from as little as GHC5 donation are welcome and whatever amount Ghanaians donate, Ecobank Ghana and the Ecobank Group will much it up and donate to the mudslide victims.
“So, for instance, if we are able to raise GHC1million from Ghanaians, Ecobank will add another GHC1million and donate the GHC2million.
She therefore appealed to Ecobank customers, the media and the general public into the fund to help the victims.
