A former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu-Juaben in the Ashanti Region, Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh has pledged his support for the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

According to him, anyone who votes against Mr. Asiedu Nketia at the party’s next congress does not have the party’s interest at heart.

“Asiedu Nketia has really done well as the party’s general secretary and so it will be a disaster if executives vote against him at the congress. In fact, no one should dare touch him because he is the right person for the job” he said.

Mr. Ponkoh comments follow calls by Former Ghana High Commissioner to UK, Ambassador Victor Smith, urging NDC supporters to vote against the current NDC executives.

According to him, there must be a total overhaul of the national executive body of the NDC.

He said the executives should be blamed for the party’s defeat in the 2016 general elections.

Mr. Smith, who lost his bid for the Abuakwa North seat in the 2016 general elections said to him, the party needs “die-hard selfless people” to take over leadership.

“To be frank with you, these executives have played with the hearts of the diehard members for far too long and so it is important for them to booted out of office to make way for competent people to lead the affairs of the party,” he said on Accra-based Citi FM.

But Mr. Ponkoh thinks otherwise.

He rather accused the NDC’s National Organizer, Kofi Adams of contributing to the defeat of former President John Dramani Mahama.

“Kofi Adams didn’t perform well as an organizer and I think he is just a disaster and needs to be kicked out. The supporters should rather vote out Kofi Adams and bring a competent person because he has no future for the party” he stated on Accra-based Okay FM.
